Dermal Fillers

An Instant Lift and a Boost of Volume

The appearance of your skin depends on the scaffolding underneath. Naturally produced in the body, hyaluronic acid (HA) is a sugar molecule that binds water to collagen in the dermis layer of the skin, giving our face its youthful structure and its smooth, supple complexion.

However, age-related volume loss due to a decline in HA and a decrease of subcutaneous fat in the face prevents our skin from snapping back in place and standing up to gravity. Over time, our high cheekbones and full lips slowly deflate, our jawline loses its strength and definition, and wrinkles begin weaving their way across our skin.
With a targeted shot of HA, dermal fillers can soften deep lines, plump thinning lips, and sculpt and contour sagging skin. During your procedure at Cobb Dermatology & Aesthetics in Central Virginia, Dr. Kristen Kuk will inject an HA-rich gel to hydrate and firm the skin for an instant lift while restoring volume loss beneath the surface for a more youthful appearance that lasts for up to a year. Whether your desires run subtle or more dramatic, Dr. Kuk can deliver the beautiful results you want to see in the mirror.

Restore Your Youthful Volume

Cobb Dermatology & Aesthetics offers a variety of injectable dermal fillers that can target a single area or be combined into a comprehensive care plan to treat multiple areas of the face.

JUVÉDERM®

  • JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA®: Get an enviable pout while erasing perioral lines, or lipstick lines, around the mouth. VOLBELLA artfully augments the lips for a fuller appearance.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®: VOLUMA corrects age-related loss in your cheeks to lift sagging skin and sculpts the chin region to refine your profile.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™, Ultra Plus XC and Ultra XC: When injected into the facial tissue, JUVÉDERM restores elasticity and corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles, including nasolabial folds (smile lines) and parentheses lines around the mouth.

The RHA® Collection

  • RHA is the only FDA-approved HA filler for dynamic facial folds – that wrinkles that occur due to regular facial movements. Injected into the mid-to-deep dermis, RHS 2 and 3 help correct moderate wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds, by mimicking the natural HA in your skin, while RHA 4 goes deeper into the superficial subcutaneous tissue to repair more severe issues.

Restylane®

  • Restylane Contour: Reclaim the high cheekbones of youth by restoring your natural contour with subtle volume and gently sculpted definition.
  • Restylane Kysse™: The first lip filler designed with XpresHAn Technology™, Kysse enhances your lips’ color and texture while maintaining their natural movement.
  • Restylane Lyft™: Lyft is the first and only hyaluronic acid filler FDA-approved to treat both your face and hands for a smoother, fuller appearance.
  • Restylane Defyne: Enhance your chin definition and smooth out deep laugh lines while maintaining your natural expressions and movement.
  • Restylane Refyne™: Restylane’s next-generation dermal filler supports your skin and softens nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Dermal Filler FAQs

Fillers are injectable gels containing hyaluronic acid that “fill in” lines and wrinkles, restore volume in the cheeks and lips, and define and contour the chin and jawline. They are injected into the deeper layers of the dermis to improve the skin’s structure and provide a smoothing effect. Over time, dermal fillers are metabolized and eliminated from the body for a safe approach to skincare.

Fillers last approximately nine months to two years depending on the type of filler injected and an individual patient’s metabolism.

Dermal fillers are sold by the syringe, and costs range from $500 to $800 per syringe. Patients may get only one syringe injected if they have a specific target or as many as five to six syringes depending on their goals. During your consultation with Dr. Kuk, she will determine how much filler may be needed to achieve the results you desire.

Dermal filler injections are slightly more uncomfortable than BOTOX injections, but most patients find they are more tolerable than they expected. Most fillers contain Lidocaine, which allows for some anesthesia during your injection.

As with any injection, there is a risk of discomfort during the procedure as well as bleeding, bruising and swelling. Most of the time, side effects are minimal, but we recommend that you plan a day of recovery time after your injection.

Not at all. Because of Dr. Kuk’s medical expertise and her deep understanding of facial anatomy, she can inject fillers in a way that leaves patients looking like a slightly more youthful version of themselves. The results can be very subtle or more dramatic depending on a patient’s goals.
